Hadith on Regular Bathing – A Sunnah of Cleanliness and Purity
In Islam, physical cleanliness is not only encouraged but also considered an essential part of faith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized regular bathing, especially for Friday prayers, as a way to maintain both physical hygiene and spiritual readiness.
📜 Hadith 1
Translation:
Abu Said al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Ghusl (full bath) on Friday is obligatory upon every adult.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
🛁 Hadith 2 on Regular Bathing
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“It is due upon every Muslim to bathe one day every seven days, in which he should wash his head and body.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari 897

This highlights the importance of cleanliness and personal hygiene, especially in preparation for communal worship like Jumuah (Friday prayer).
🌿 Sunnah Method of Ghusl (Ritual Bath)
- Wash hands up to the wrists three times.
- Remove any impurities from the body.
- Clean private parts (Istinja), even if no impurity is visible.
- Perform Wudhu as you would for prayer.
- Pour water over the head three times, ensuring it reaches the roots of the hair.
- Wash the entire body, starting with the right side, then the left.
This method ensures both physical and spiritual purification.
