Hadith on Drinking Water

Islam teaches us not only acts of worship but also beautiful etiquettes for daily life. One such Sunnah is about drinking water with good manners.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade breathing into the vessel while drinking.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

Explanation

The Prophet ﷺ guided us to avoid breathing into a pot, cup, or utensil while drinking. This is for both hygiene and etiquette, preventing the spread of germs and keeping the water clean for others who may drink from the same vessel.

Daily Sunnah Reminder

  • Drink water in three sips.
  • Say Bismillah before drinking and Alhamdulillah after finishing.
  • Sit while drinking.
  • Do not blow or breathe into the vessel.

This small Sunnah reflects the Prophet’s ﷺ concern for cleanliness, health, and respect for others.
