Daily Duas

Small words woven through an ordinary day — from opening your eyes to closing them again — so that nothing you do passes without remembrance.

On Waking Up

Praise be to Allah who gave us life after having caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Sahih al-Bukhari
Before Sleeping

Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya.

O Allah, in Your name I die and I live.

Sahih al-Bukhari
Leaving the House

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.

Sunan Abi Dawud · Jami’ at-Tirmidhi
Entering the House

Allahumma inni as’aluka khayral-mawlaji wa khayral-makhraji, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna, wa ‘ala Allahi rabbina tawakkalna.

O Allah, I ask You for the best entrance and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Sunan Abi Dawud
Before Eating

Bismillah.

In the name of Allah.

Sahih al-Bukhari · Sahih Muslim
After Eating

Praise be to Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any power or might on my part.

Sunan Abi Dawud · Jami’ at-Tirmidhi
Entering the Bathroom

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-khubthi wal-khaba’ith.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.

Sahih al-Bukhari · Sahih Muslim
Looking in the Mirror

Allahumma kama hassanta khalqi fahassin khuluqi.

O Allah, just as You have made my outward form good, make my character good as well.

Musnad Ahmad
For One’s Parents

Rabbi irhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.

My Lord, have mercy upon them as they raised me when I was small.
