On Waking Up
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.
Praise be to Allah who gave us life after having caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya.
O Allah, in Your name I die and I live.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Bismillahi tawakkaltu ‘ala-Llah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ الْمَوْلِجِ وَخَيْرَ الْمَخْرَجِ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
Allahumma inni as’aluka khayral-mawlaji wa khayral-makhraji, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna, wa ‘ala Allahi rabbina tawakkalna.
O Allah, I ask You for the best entrance and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Travel Duas
For the road, the runway, and every place you rest your bags along the way — supplications the Prophet ﷺ used to say before, during, and after a journey.
Setting Out on a Journey
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ
Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun.
Glory to Him who has made this subservient to us, for we could never have done it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will surely return.

The Full Traveller’s Dua
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى
Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tarda.
O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for righteousness, piety, and deeds that please You.

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Ayibuna ta’ibuna ‘abiduna li-rabbina hamidun.
We return, repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord.

For a Safe Ascent or Descent
اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ (عند الصعود) — سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ (عند الهبوط)
Allahu akbar (when ascending) — Subhanallah (when descending).
The Prophet ﷺ would say “Allahu akbar” going uphill and “Subhanallah” going downhill — a rhythm easily carried onto a plane taking off or a road climbing a pass.

The Dua of Prophet Yunus (in Distress)
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

There is no god but You, glory be to You; indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.

اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا
Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla, wa anta taj’alul-hazna idha shi’ta sahla.
O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy, and You can make hardship easy if You will.

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Allahumma-kfini bihalalika ‘an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwak.
O Allah, suffice me with what You have permitted instead of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of all others besides You.
